How Did Bob Marley Die

How did bob Marley Die?
Many people wonder how did Bob Marley die. It was the 11th of May 1981 when Bob Marley passed away in a Miami hospital. Bob Marley officially passed away due to malignant melanoma (it is a kind of lentiginous skin cancer ), a dangerous type of cancer that was found on his toe.
Bob Marley was born in Jamaica on 6th February 1945. He was a musician and song-writer. He sang in several bands in his music career.
In July 1977, Bob Markey was found to have an injury on his big toe while playing soccer with friends. The wound seemed to get worse form the simple soccer injury and he went seeking medical attention. Instead of healing, it continues to get worse. After some tests, he was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma which is a dangerous type of cancer on his toe. The doctors recommended that the toe should be amputated to prevent spread to other parts of the body. Bob Marley who professed the Rastafarian religion could not agree to it because it was contrary to his beliefs. The religion believed that amputation was sinful. This belief was found in a Bible verse found in Leviticus 21:5 – “They must not shave their heads or shave off the edges of their beards or cut their bodies”. This is the verse that is behind the belief in wearing dreadlocks for the Rastafarians. The last part talks about cutting bodies which for them includes amputation.
Rastafarians also have other beliefs which are difficult for non-Rastafarians to understand. One of them is that death is not a certainty and that holy people gain immortality in their physical bodies. An indicator that death is a possibility is to affirm that it will happen soon. This also influenced his decision not to have an amputation. For this reason also, he never wrote any will on how his estate would be shared out and it resulted in difficulty in sharing it out after his death.

By late summer in 1980, he travelled to New York City for a performance and decided to jog through Central Park. It was while he was jogging that he collapsed. He flew to Munich Germany for treatment under the care of Josef Issels who is a holistic physician. This is where he came to learn that his cancer was terminal and he could not be cured. The cancer had spread to other parts of his body like the brain, liver, stomach, and lungs. The spread was as a result of his refusal to get treatment. While flying back home to Jamaica he became more sick while on transit. The plane did a stopover in Miami where he died on the morning of 11th May 1981 at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. He was aged 36 years when he died. The last person he spoke to was his son Ziggy Marley and the words were “Money cannot buy life”.
He was accorded a state funeral and was buried on 21st May 1981 in a crypt near his birthplace with his red Gibson Les Paul, a marijuana bud, a Bible, soccer ball and a ring that he wore always that had been given to him by Prince Asfa who was the eldest son of H.I.M.
His last performance was at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh on 23rd September 1980. The particular performance was re-mastered and released to the public in February 2011 and was titled ‘Bob Marley and the Wailers Live Forever’.
After his death, his medical records were never made public. It is believed that just before his death, he allowed a skin grafting to be done in place of an amputation but it was either too late or ineffective.
